JOHNSTOWN, PA March 25, 2015 – Pasquerilla Enterprises L.P., is pleased to announce construction on a new hotel property will begin in late spring. The Holiday Inn Express located at 1440 Scalp Avenue in Richland Township will be razed and a new Holiday Inn Express & Suites will be constructed in the same location. Final details are still under negotiation with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®). President of Crown American Associates, Mike Barletta stated: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to replace the existing property with a new building for our guests. This property and location have been excellent for our business, but now is the time to build a new product. We are happy to continue the relationship with the InterContinental Hotels Group brand and are looking forward to our ongoing partnership with them.” In the rich history of the locally based hotel company, this is the first time that a hotel property will be razed and rebuilt in the same location. Owner of Pasquerilla Enterprises L.P., Mark E. Pasquerilla stated: “The hotel industry is one that is constantly changing. We need to update our product to be able to accommodate the needs of our guests who travel and stay in Johnstown for leisure or business.” The new property will open as a Holiday Inn Express & Suites, an upgraded prototype and brand from the traditional Holiday Inn Express model. The new hotel will contain 93 guest rooms, 18 of which are suites. Additionally, the hotel will have meeting space with modern amenities, a high tech business center, an expansive fitness center, and an outdoor pool. The new hotel will also feature additional parking around the property as well as the brand’s Express Start℠ Breakfast and its Simply Smart® bedding. The new building will use state of the art materials and be designed in the most energy efficient manner compared to the existing structure. The current Holiday Inn Express worldwide portfolio boasts 2,365 hotels as well its IHG® Rewards Club, the largest loyalty program in the hotel industry. The current property on Scalp Avenue was built by Crown American Associates and opened in May 1987 as a Super 8 Hotel. The property was converted to a Holiday Inn Express in February 1996.
Building Related Solutions of Windber, Pennsylvania was chosen as the Project Manager. All other contracts are currently under negotiation. Demolition of the property is set to begin in May 2015 and construction will conclude by June 2016.
